Opening a Jan Dhan account is designed to be hassle-free. You can apply through any Public Sector Bank, selected Private Banks, or via a Bank Mitra (Business Correspondent).
Step 1: Choose Your Method

Offline (Recommended): Visit the nearest bank branch or a Bank Mitra kiosk in your village/locality.

Online: Visit the official website of banks like SBI, PNB, or Bank of Baroda and look for the “PMJDY” or “Financial Inclusion” section.
Step 2: Fill the Application Form
You will need to fill out a simple Account Opening Form (AOF).

Provide your Name, Address, Occupation, and Aadhaar number.

Select the checkbox to receive a Free RuPay Debit Card.

Important: Don’t forget to fill in the Nomination details to ensure your family can access the funds in case of an emergency.
Step 3: Verification
Submit the form along with a copy of your Aadhaar Card (or other valid ID). The bank official will verify your documents. If you have no documents, you can request a “Small Account” by providing a photograph and a thumbprint/signature.
Step 4: Activation
Once approved, you will receive your Passbook and RuPay Debit Card. Ensure you perform at least one transaction every 90 days to keep your ₹2 Lakh Accident Insurance active.
